چکیده

[1] Aerosol optical depths (ta) are derived operationally for the first time from the MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) measurements over vegetated and partially vegetated land at 0.47 and 0.66 mm wavelengths. The extensive validation made during July – September 2000 encompasses 315 co-located ta in space and time derived by MODIS and AERONET (Aerosol Robotic Network) from more than 30 AERONET sites. The lack of AERONET measurements in East Asia, India and Australia makes this validation unavailable for those regions. The MODIS aerosol retrievals, except in coastal zones, are found within the retrieval errors of ta = ±0.05 ±0.2 ta. The root mean square (RMS) errors are 0.1 in the continental inland regions and up to 0.3 in the coastal regions (attributed mainly to water contaminated signals). With this validation we believe that MODIS aerosol products can be used quantitatively in many applications with caution for possible residual clouds, snow/ice, and water contamination.

Primary Validation of the Syntem Aerosol Retrieval Model over Beijing Area Using Aeronet Data

Atmospheric aerosol, as particulate matter suspended in the air, exists in a variety of forms such as dust, fume and mist. It deeply affects climate and land surface environment in both regional and global scales, and furthermore, lead to be hugely much influence on human health. For the sake of effectively monitoring it, satellite remote sensing data are used to inverse aerosol optical depth a...

GOCI Yonsei Aerosol Retrieval (YAER) algorithm and validation during the DRAGON-NE Asia 2012 campaign

The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) onboard the Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) is the first multi-channel ocean color imager in geostationary orbit. Hourly GOCI top-of-atmosphere radiance has been available for the retrieval of aerosol optical properties over East Asia since March 2011. This study presents improvements made to the GOCI Yonsei Aerosol Retrieval...

Aerosol optical depth retrieval from GOES-8: Uncertainty study and retrieval validation over South America

[1] An algorithm for aerosol optical depth t retrieval from the Geostationary Observational Environmental Satellite (GOES) series is described, where the darkest pixels are used to create a spatial composite of surface reflectance. The data are calibrated and corrected for atmospheric extinction to retrieve the surface reflectance which is then used to retrieved t. Analysis suggests that t retr...

Second-generation operational algorithm: Retrieval of aerosol properties over land from inversion of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer spectral reflectance

[1] Since first light in early 2000, operational global quantitative retrievals of aerosol properties over land have been made from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) observed spectral reflectance. These products have been continuously evaluated and validated, and opportunities for improvements have been noted. We have replaced the surface reflectance assumptions, the set of ...

Retrieval of Aerosol Optical Depth over Urban Areas Using Terra/modis Data

Satellite remote sensing retrieval has shown excellent competence at retrieving the aerosol distribution and properties comparing with traditional detection. The extended dark dense vegetation (DDV) algorithm for MODIS data was used widely all over the world. However, whether this algorithm can be transferred to high reflectivity areas of China is not known yet, especially in urban area and its...
